GAC LANDS ACC 2013, 2014 & 2016 SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that the Greensboro Aquatic Center has been selected as the site for the 2013, 2014 and 2016 ACC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.
“The Atlantic Coast Conference has a special relationship with the City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Coliseum Complex," said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “Bringing the ACC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships to this tremendous facility will provide our student-athletes with an opportunity to compete in one of the top aquatic venues in the southeast. The City of Greensboro and specifically the Coliseum Complex staff, Tournament Host Committee, Greensboro Sports Commission, Greensboro Sports Council and Greensboro Area Convention & Visitors Bureau continue to go to unprecedented lengths to make everyone associated with our events – officials, athletes, sponsors, media and patrons - feel welcome, and we appreciate the excellent hospitality they provide."
The 2013 Championships will run February 20-23 and February 27-March 2.
In addition to the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex will serve as the host site for the 2012-15 ACC Women's Basketball Tournaments and the 2013-15 ACC Men's Basketball Tournaments. The state-of-the-art Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) opened in August of 2011, and is located on the grounds of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. The 78,323 square-foot facility includes three bodies of water (competition pool, warm-up pool and diving well) and a seating capacity of more than 2,500.
“When the Greensboro Aquatic Center was conceived, one of the very first objectives was to have this new state-of-the-art facility serve as the ‘home’ for ACC Swimming & Diving Championships," said Greensboro Coliseum Complex managing director Matt Brown. “The City of Greensboro and the Coliseum Complex have a long and storied tradition of hosting ACC Championship events and hosting these swimming & diving championships will only add to that tradition. We are confident our level of hospitality and service, combined with this first-class facility, will ensure the ACC will want to keep these championships here in ‘Tournament Town’ for years to come.”
