About The Gac

Since its grand opening in 2011, the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC) has emerged as one of the top aquatic facilities in the nation. A state-of-the-art facility featuring cutting edge concepts in aquatic design, the GAC is located on the campus of the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, the premier sports and entertainment facility in the Southeast.

Built at a cost of nearly $19 million, the GAC brings together all major aquatic sports – competitive swimming and diving, water polo, synchronized swimming and other unique sports - all in one venue. The GAC’s versatility offers Greensboro the opportunity to host high school and collegiate events, USA Swimming meets, U.S. Masters Swimming and U.S. Water Polo events as well as myriad local, regional, national and international competitions. The GAC’s impressive national swim meet resume includes numerous NCAA, ACC, YMCA and USA Diving competitions. According to the Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau, the estimated economic impact of GAC events exceeds $224 million.

Beyond hosting competitive aquatic meets, the GAC serves Greensboro as a community pool open to GAC members and guests for swimming and recreation throughout the year. In addition to open swimming, the GAC offers swim lessons, water fitness and exercise classes and a wide variety of specialized aquatic programming classes and instruction. The GAC’s unique partnership with Guilford County Schools in the development of a privately financed, curriculum-based ‘Learn to Swim’ healthy lifestyle program has drawn national acclaim in the swimming community. The GAC also serves the local community as the ‘home' practice for several local club, high school and college swimming and diving teams.
